Leitz manufactured a series of Laborlux instruments with the differences between models often quite relatively small because they all largely had the same optical objectives and eyepieces. A quality microscope that becomes affordable simply because it is getting on a bit!

All in all a fine microscope made the way that microscopes should be. The rheostat control is on the right side of the base towards the back and at the front of the base is a volt meter display.

The external light box houses a 100 watt halogen light source with full bulb positioning control and filter slots. The coaxial coarse and fine focus controls also have a maximum distance control mechanism below the focus controls on the left of the stand. Both the aperture and filed iris diaphragm controls are wheels embedded in the left hand side of the base. The substage has the classic ‘paddle’ movement of the upper auxiliary lens, with full lateral movement and focus controls. Double vernier scale and coaxial movement controls.

The five position turret has plan x2.5 (0.08), NPL fluotar x4 (0.12), NPL fluotar 圆.3 (0.20), NPL fluotar x25 (0.55) and an NPL fluotar x40 (0.70) The mechanical stage surface is remarkably free of surface marks for its age and has the ability to be rotated when the locking screw is released. The trinocular head allows 100% of the light to the eyepieces, 50/50 to the eyepieces and photoport or 10% to the eyepieces and 90% to the photoport and has x10 periplan eyepieces with integral eyecups that are suitable for spectacle wearers. This is a heavy weight microscope commanding a large foot print. These are now well sought after and this particular model is in very good condition indeed. The Diaplan was the flagship model during the heyday of the Leitz brand.
